If you have the means, as a wedding gift we would welcome any donations, small or large, to our fundraiser for the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, and Seed Mob.
Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (https://alnf.org/) are a national charity seeking to assist people in our most marginalised communities to gain vital language, literacy and communication skills. Their programs address the needs of a diverse range of individuals and communities – specifically supporting First Nations, refugee and other vulnerable Australians. ALNF believe that literacy is freedom - literacy allows individuals to access education, participate meaningfully in our society and to have a voice.
Jacob has chosen the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation because his research work focuses on numeracy and individual differences in maths learning difficulties, as well as his previous experience as a maths tutor. He knows first-hand how empowering it can be to have a good grasp of numeracy and the important role literacy plays in developing maths skills. All Australians have the right to literacy and numeracy.
Seed (https://www.seedmob.org.au/) is Australia’s first and only Indigenous Youth Climate Network. They are building a movement led by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to protect country, culture and communities from the causes and impacts of climate change.
Riley first met Seed Mob at COP21 in Paris where they were representing First Nations youth at the UN climate negotiations. They are a young organisation that spent most of 2022 setting up their foundations as an independent organisation. Riley believes young people and First Nations people, who have been caring for our country for tens of thousands of years, should be at the forefront of our conversation and action on climate change, which is why she loves their work.
