Nathanial is a 25 year old man from Brisbane, QLD Australia. He is a young Christian with a heart to help the lost, forgotten and those in need and has been involved as a volunteer to serve multiple organisations. Nathanial believes in strong family values and wants to see other children and communities strive and achieve to the best of their abilities.

In 2017 during a family holiday to Fiji, he was moved to help many local families after seeing their communities in need. After this visit, Nathanial was inspired to launch the Bula Mate project to extend a hand of mateship with a mission to serve the Fijians in love.

In 2019 Nathanial spent a month in Fiji (Korotogo), educating children and helping the under resourced and over worked teachers at Nokonoko District School to potentially make learning “fun” for the kids. During his time spent there Nathanial visited Sigatoka, meeting the Sigatoka special school students and staff, the Fire Station staff and the town Council.

Nathanial met with the Senior Pastor and his wife at Aflame for Christ Ministries. After a couple of meetings with the leadership, a partnership was formed and they have been working together ever since serving both Christian and non-Christian adults who are struggling with both spiritual and individual concerns. He has always intended to return to Fiji in person to show love in the form of practical care in the community.

The Covid 19 pandemic has prevented Nathanial's travel plans. It has dragged on for over two years impacting the Fijian economy and livelihoods of many in what was already a country battling poverty. Covid has now reached Fijian shores and is not only impacting jobs and tourism but causing illness.

Picture a country already battling poverty, with its main industry, tourism, shut down for over a year and now with over 65,000 people who have been infected with Covid and over 800 killed by this deadly virus. It's a bleak picture.

During the lockdowns, Nathanial and his partners in Fiji ran a Virtual Food Drive each Christmas, where Australians contributed to putting food on the tables of those in need.
Over two years, $2,340 was raised and used for food parcels for needy families and orphans.

Now that travelling is an option once again, Nathanial is heading back to Fiji shortly and spending 2 months over there. Nathanial will be staying in a village experiencing traditional village life with a local family who will introduce him to the unique Fijian culture and customs and welcomed into the communities with a warmth and kindness.

In these communities, often hot water is not available for use and most meals are cooked on an open fire or in an underground oven dug out of the ground and covered with banana leaves.
