After a lifetime of long blonde locks, my head is going nude on 14 October 2017!
Why?
Because every year, 1 million Aussie adults have depression and 2 million have anxiety.
Because 7 out of every 30 students will have a mental illness, and only two will seek support.
Because on average, eight Aussies take their own lives every day.
Because we all know someone who has or is experiencing a mental illness.
Some of my nearest and dearest have been part of the 45% experiencing mental health conditions. They are strong people. They are also their own hardest critics.
I once read about a doctor asking their mentally-ill patient if they would be easier on themselves if their head was bandaged, so it was something visible. This gave me the idea to help start conversations by shaving my head - to have something visible.
So, on 14 October 2017, I am going to auction off the entertaining responsibility of shaving my head, along with a few other fun things at the Courthouse Hotel in Tamworth. I’d love it if you could support me in this. Donate to help improve the lives of people affected by anxiety, depression and suicide and start more conversations around mental health. If you would like to vie for the opportunity to be the one who shaves my head, or just want to see my pin-head go bald, I’d love to see you join us!
There are fabulous resources and organisations around helping reach out, educate, and build awareness of mental health conditions. All funds raised through this event will be split between beyondblue and batyr.
To help bust the stigma and start more conversations, please donate! (THANK YOU, YOU’RE AMAZING)
If you or someone you know is struggling, or just out of curiosity, you can visit: www.beyondblue.org.au www.batyr.com.au or contact: Lifeline on 13 11 14 Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467
Funds donated to the My cause Gift Fund will be split 50/50 between batyr and beyondblue. The Trustees will always disburse funds to the nominated cause, however in the case that is not possible, the funds will be disbursed to a DGR charity at the trustees discretion.
