About
For 30 years we lived on the Central Coast where we were about 5 minutes by car from several medical centres and the Gosford Hospital. Then we retired to a small property in Tabulam where we are 40 km to the nearest doctor at Bonalbo, 70 km from Casino Hospital which has limited facilities and 100 km from Lismore Hospital. I’m now 70 and recognise that having medical services so far away could be fatal.
We moved to Tabulam in December 2010, just in time to be isolated by the floods in January 2011. Being unfamiliar with the concept of a ‘flood cupboard’ we had to call on the services of the SES to bring us some food and baby supplies as our 5-month-old grand-daughter was with us.
The assistance provided by these services during the recent floods in Lismore and surrounding areas reinforced my desire to fund-raise for them.
I have always considered myself community-minded and have shaved my head 3 times for the World’s Greatest Shave over the last 15 years. I have been growing my hair specifically to have it shaved to raise money for services that are vital to rural communities, i.e. Helirescue, SES and RFS. I am going to have it shaved during the Tabulam Blueberry Festival on 13 May 2017 at the CWA in Tabulam with my hair being donated to 'Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW' for wig-making) . Please help me raise funds for these worthy causes.
