As you may or may not know, my father passed away 5 years ago from Bowel Cancer. During the last few months of his life he was at Greenwich Palliative Care Hospital which is a ward run by Hammond Care- an independant Christian charity- who aim to make the 'end of life' process the most comfortable they can. Cure is no longer the aim of treatment. Instead, maintaining the best quality of life possible becomes the priority.
The experience with the volunteers and nurses at the hospital was so inspiring that I decided to sign up as a volunteer myself to give people the experience i did when my father was extremely ill. However, when i walked around the ward, i noticed that the 'Family Room' was in need of a lift. This room is a place where patients and their guest can relax, chat and take time for themselves.
Considering the hospital has limited funding to renovate this room, i have taken it upon myself to raise funds to not only decorate this room to make it warm and inviting. I'm aiming to raise as much money as necessary to renovate this room. We are holding a fundraiser where i will be hosting a live and silent auction along with other fun aspects.
