From February, I'll be volunteering with the amazing organisation Hands at Work in Africa. These guys work alongside pre-existing community leaders to empower them to help their own community. This is achieved through a long-term working relationship - not based on hand outs or a "white guilt band-aid" to solve an issue. Ultimately, Hands at Work aim to operate as a scaffolding for these communities: to offer support, guidance and help in any way, but in the end, be a temporary structure. As a volunteer, I'll be paying my own way for the year - which I'm happy to agree to, because it means that all those wonderful donations given to Hands at Work are going to where the funds are needed most: the community projects. Funding my journey for the year includes flights, visas, accommodation, food, plus many other transport and logistics costs. And this is where I need your help. Your kind donations will help me to continue living, serving and loving on the communities in Africa.
For all those who are interested, I'll be keeping a blog while I'm away. It would be so wonderful for you to be able to see how far your donations will go to provide help and support, and to enable me to continue living and working out this dream of mine!
