Well, it’s no ordinary start to 2015; in a moment of spontaneity and enthusiasm I signed up for an amateur boxing fight. Seriously, I did.
“Wannabe Boxing” is the major annual fundraising effort for Cyclone Boxing NT’s Counter Punch Program.
This will be a great physical and mental challenge for me, and an opportunity to raise money for a really worthwhile local group.
Counter Punch is an early intervention program supported by the NT Government. It targets young people who are starting to become disaffected at school or where behaviour change is apparent. The program is an opportunity to re-engage with life and learning through participation in boxing classes with coaching and mentoring in life skills.
In preparation for fight night in early March, we receive professional coaching as well as support and encouragement from the guys in the Counter Punch program. It’s a great bunch of people, from the group that I’m training with (and eventually facing off in the ring with), to the coaches and the kids. I’m glad I signed up.
I’ll be organising a number of fundraisers to reach the $2000 target but if you’d like to support my efforts, your donations are most welcome.
I pledge to train hard, fight fair… and protect my nose!
