About Alfie's story
(* Please note the total remainder for Alfies bill is $2900. once that is reached any extra donations go towards Alfies Law, a fund set up to help other victims of dog fighting and animal abuse.)

I would like to share with you the story of the most horrifying last 48 hours of my life, in which my dog was stolen from a backyard and used as bait in an illegal dogfight. Although gruesome I find this is so important to share so this doesn't happen to another unsuspecting dog owner. Alfie, our 3 year old Kelpie x Labrador, went missing from our ‘secure’ yard (or so we thought) this Thursday in Sunshine, Vic. There were signs of entry and a missing lead, and we contacted all rescue shelters and the police but with no result. 24 hours later I was home alone and heard a small noise at the door- Alfie weakly scratching to be let in. He was torn to pieces- literally- gashes on his neck over 10 inches long, puncture wounds all over his torso. We rushed him to the Advanced Vet care hospital where they managed to stabilise him. The vet explained he was most likely used as ‘bait’ to encourage much larger dogs to maul each other. He had wounds consistent with the bites of a much larger dog and horrifyingly wounds indicating he had also been stabbed with a sharp object- such as a knife up to eight cm deep. There was a rope tied to his back leg- to stop him escaping the fight.

It is a miracle his wounds didn't kill him and that he managed to escape his captors- I put this down to the wiry Kelpie in him- he can jump 6 ft fences and easily wrangle his way out of grabbing hands.

There was no indication we were targets and I know we were too complacent with security for our yard. Quiet suburban street, great neighbours- who would have thought? We didn't have a lock on our gate and that is how he was taken, someone simply walked in and took him.

The message to all dog owners is IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU. Please don't be another victim- secure your yard under lock and key, do not leave pets in cars and worst of all tied up on the street. Please pass this message on to all dog owners and if you suspect illegal dogfighting in your area SPEAK UP. Even an anonymous tip off could save the lives of hundreds of innocent dogs, and put the sick individuals who arrange these fights to justice.

You can help his (and our) recovery

Alfie is home now and doing well- eating sardines and resting his wounds.

And please spread the word about keeping your animals safe- this threat is real.

It is this story (and ones like it) that I am reminded of the sick individuals out there that could value animals lives so little. It does however restore my faith in the rest of the population that loves and adores animals like you and wants only the very best life for you so that donations like this can be made. You're amazing Alfie and I hope your recovery is quick. I hope you have a long, happy life full of playtime, adventure and lots of cuddles!! xxxxx

Im horrified that can happen in Australia! As a owner of rescue dog Lab x Kelpie, it just makes my blood boil to think of those scumbags who did that, next time they will turn on kids for sure! Wish Alfie a speedy recovery from the physical and emotional trauma. We want justice NOW!
