Cancer can affect anyone, and for me it is my brother Paul. Paul is a loving husband of Lauren and devoted father of Nicole. Paul is a very strong and positive person, his goal is to keep fighting this disease so he can live a long, happy life and be there for his family and maybe even one day give Nicole a sibling.
Paul was working as a registered nurse up until being diagnosed, he was so used to looking after everyone else, but now he needs our help.
Paul has been diagnosed with a stage 3 anaplastic astrocytoma brain tumour. Which is so serious, that it is potentially fatal. On Thursday 11th September 2014 Paul had his first surgery which was able to remove approx. 70% of the tumour. On Wednesday 17th September 2014 Paul had another surgery, so in total approx 90% of the tumour has now been removed.
Paul has had a radiotherapy treatment and has been a part of a clinical trial which has meant that he has been able to have 3 monthly MRI scans. So far the tumour has grown a small amount since surgery. The doctors are keeping a close eye on the tumour via regular MRI scans. The doctors have discussed that if the tumour grows more Paul will have to start oral chemotherapy.
Paul currently struggles with memory problems and changes in his mood which he can not control.
As the tumour is still present, Paul is unable to return to his work or drive. Lauren has had to stop work also due to her own health concerns and to be around to help Paul.
This page has been created to help relieve the pressures of money on Paul and his family, so that he may concentrate on being well and not have the stress of not being able to provide for his family. Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much for your generosity!
Update 30/3/17: Pauls tumour was found to have changed to a GBM tumour. He did have treatment which included more surgery and chemo, but it is now at the stage that nothing more can be done. Paul is rapidly deteriorating now and it is a very difficult time. Any help for this young family would be much appreciated!
