The Ride
On 14 September, a riding team for The Defence Bank Foundation will set out from the Southern Highlands to Sydney to raise money for the Young Diggers Dog Squad. The 150 km route heads from Moss Vale to the coast, then north past Lake Illawarra and through Wollongong to the notorious Bulli Pass climb to test the legs before the final stretch to Sydney via the Royal National Park.
My team is aiming to raise $20,000 to finance the training of 8 Assistance Dogs for returned service people in need. Any support you can give to our returned service people via a donation to this great cause will be greatly appreciated. The story of the Diggers Dog Squad follows along with the website for donations. Tax invoices are sent immediately after donating.
The Dog Squad
The Young Diggers Dog Squad is a unique program which trains rescued dogs to become nationally recognised Assistance Dogs to support mentally and physically injured and disabled serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members. Throughout this two year program, Young Diggers provide help and practical support to enhance the quality of life for both the dog and their new owner. Over 300 Assistance Dogs are currently needed and whilst many services are provided free of charge by volunteers, Young Diggers need $2,500 to rescue and train each dog over two years. With your help, we can provide the funding to meet this need.
