Thanks for visiting my Fundraising Page for Brisbane Zombie Walk!
Chiari and Syringomyelia Australia supports those who have these two neurological conditions. We love BRAIIINNSSS!
Chiari Malformation is a congenital condition that causes the cerebellum (hind brain) to herniate through the skull into the spinal canal. This causes compression of the cerebellum and sometimes the brain stem. It also stops fluid flowing from the brain and spine causing secondary conditions.
Syringomyelia can be caused by chiari, tumours, cysts or through traumatic injury. Due to a blockage of fluid the spinal fluid gets blocked up down the spine and slowly expands crushing the spinal cord and nerve from the inside out.
Both these conditions can be disabling and sometimes paralysing. The only treatment that gives any chance of reversing symptoms or stopping progression is brain and spine surgery. Sadly some people need multiple brain surgeries with out relief from chronic pain and multiple disabling symptoms.
So we support the Brain Foundation and their fantastic work and money given to research on ours and other conditions! This is our 2nd year as a team and we hope to beat our money raised and people attending each year to raise awareness for us and other brain conditions.
