A Universal Language Adventure supporting the Tour dAfrique Foundation

We are taking part in the 2013 Tour d'Afrique, an 11,718 km bicycle expedition and race from Cairo to Cape Town; making it one of the longest and most difficult bike expeditions. The Tour is designed to challenge people physically and mentally like no other; and reward participants with scenes of unsurpassed splendour and an incomparable feeling of accomplishment.

The game is simple, to cross Africa by human power and to experience its beauty and diversity from the best seat in the house; your bicycle seat. As well as that, throughout the journey to give something back to Africa by raising funds for bicycle donations to community health the development groups and raise the consciousness about bicycles as an alternative and appropriate means of transport.

The Tour will take 4 months, averaging 123 km each, broken up by rest days and 2 days of ferry boat travel for a total of 121 days in traversing Africa from north to south. Stages range from 80 km on rough terrain to more than 180 km on the best paved roads Africa has to offer.

The Tour is about those desiring to stretch themselves, have an adventure, and breaking out of your comfort zone; they say that is where life begins. For us, it offers an event to exceed our potential. Off the bike it is about tasting new food, meeting new people, discovering new cultures and marvelling at the resourcefulness and endearing courage that makes up the human spirit.

All money raised will be donated to the Tour d'Afrique Foundation, a company focused on:
• Donating bikes to individuals and organizations in Africa;
• Supporting bicycle advocacy and promoting projects that protect the environment; and
• Encouraging participants in the tour to raise funds for their favored charity whether in their home country or in Africa or both.
