In Loving Memory of Katie Mackey
With broken hearts, we are creating this tribute in memory of the beautiful and much-loved Katie Mackey, who passed away peacefully on 21 August following her diagnosis with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in February.
Katie was a deeply loved daughter of Simon and Melissa, sister to Lexi, and is now reunited with her twin sister Isabel.
The months following Katie's diagnosis brought an incredible outpouring of love, care and generosity from family, friends, the medical community and even complete strangers. Among those were people who generously donated white blood cells to help Katie during her treatment. Katie's family are enormously grateful to everyone who supported her throughout this incredibly difficult journey.
Even in the face of her own illness, Katie wanted to make a difference for others.
In an extraordinary reflection of the person she was, Katie chose to leave half of her estate to cancer research. Her family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Katie consider making a donation towards cancer research.
We have created this page to help continue Katie's legacy.
Funds raised in Katie's memory will be distributed among selected charities supporting leukaemia and cancer research, treatment and support, helping researchers continue the search for better treatments and, ultimately, cures.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, is a tribute to Katie and to her hope that something positive could come from what she endured.
For those who are unable to donate, sharing this page, leaving a message or simply keeping Katie and her family in your thoughts is equally appreciated.
In loving memory of Katie.
May the generosity shown in her name help give hope to another person, another daughter, another sister and another family facing cancer.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
