Hi, my name is Leigh and I am a supporter of Little Life Sanctuary. For the past few months I have been delivering donations from the Canberra region to Martin and all the beautiful cats he cares for.
My most recent trip to LLS was during the severe heatwave that engulfed most of the east coast. I had wanted to check in with Marty to see if he and the cats were managing the oppressive conditions. He advised that his solar system was not coping and he had lost power several times.
It has been clear for a while that the Sanctuary needs a more robust solar system to keep everything running smoothly. At the moment, the current system only allows Martin to run one appliance at a time and he has to be very conscious of his power usage on overcast days.
If Martin needs to do laundry, he cannot use the microwave at the same time. In addition, his fridge is too small for his needs but it is all the current system can handle. The small fridge also means he has to make more trips into town to buy the fresh food that he provides for the cats. This takes him away from all the work that needs to be done daily around the Sanctuary.
Martin doesn't have any aircon and has minimal appliances to ensure he can keep the basics running.
What the Sanctuary needs is a new solar system that can support its requirements. Martin needs to be able to run a freezer and a fan and do a load of laundry without worrying that he won’t have any power left to turn on lights in the evening.
Martin has received an initial quote for an upgrade to his current system. The quote was for approximately $30,000 but we would like to raise a little more to cover any additional costs that may arise or if the quote has since increased.
I know this is a big ask but those who know Martin and have followed his journey with the Sanctuary know how much he does for the cats. Cats that no one else will take. Many of the cats have never known love, only pain. Martin provides a safe and loving home for them all -- for the rest of their lives.
Please help with any amount that you can and please share this far and wide to help the cats and Marty at Little Life Sanctuary.
