Hi, I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Ruby Miller. I was born in 2007 to Brian and Ondria Miller, and I have lived in the Leeton/Yanco area all my life. I attended Leeton Pre-School for two years and then Parkview, and more recently Leeton High School. I have recently completed my HSC, and I am intending to study online a Sports and Exercise Degree at university. I have chosen Can Assist as my charity as it is one that has, unfortunately, been a part of my life on more than one occasion. When I was quite young, my father and mother required assistance due to my father's terminal diagnosis of Oesophageal Cancer. We are extremely grateful for the support that CanAssist provided us then. In 2016, my family once again required the assistance of CanAssist when my grandfather was unwell. It was for these reasons that it made perfect sense to me that CanAssist would be my charity of choice. I am truly grateful to be living in a community that is so kind, supportive and giving. Many of you may recognise me from photos that have been around town and in the Irrigator. As a hearing-impaired athlete, I have recently represented Australia at the Deaflympics. The Deaflympics has been supporting athletes with hearing impairments for 100years and I have been fortunate to have been chosen to represent at the highest level. While my journey continues, I feel this is a great time for me to also give back to the community that has supported me. I am proud to be completing the next challenge in my life- taking part in the SunRice Ambassador quest, proudly sponsored by the Wade Hotel Leeton. I am proud to be in a position to fundraise for others. I understand how hard it is to raise money for a cause, and I hope that many from the community get behind my fundraising events to ultimately give back to the community that we all love.
