Hi everyone,

We’re reaching out as Clare’s close friends – because she’s facing an unimaginable challenge: a breast cancer diagnosis during her family holiday.

Clare, her husband and their two young children live in the Highlands of Scotland but recently returned to Australia to be with family and friends. It was supposed to be a happy visit, but everything changed when Clare discovered a lump in her breast.

Her diagnosis – an invasive lobular carcinoma – has come as a shock to us all. Doctors in Australia have urged her to start treatment now so she’s surrounded by family during surgery and recovery.

Clare and her family were only meant to be here on holiday, leaving work and daily life behind in Scotland. Clare, a flower farmer, and her husband, a self-employed artist, have no income in Australia, and their travel insurance has only covered initial tests and will not continue through to treatment.

Every day is now about covering essentials - food, accommodation, transport, clothing (they only packed for a few weeks away!) and helping their kids feel stable in a foreign place while Clare starts treatment. They’re asking for a little help from friends, family and kind-hearted people near and far.

We’re hoping to raise enough to cover living costs and family accommodation during Clare’s treatment, so whatever you can give – whether it’s a donation or just sharing Clare’s story – will make such a difference. We all want her family to feel surrounded by support, no matter where they are.

Thank-you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Love,

Clare’s friends and family.

Always looking on the positive - that's our gorgeous Clare!! Here's another update from her. She is now 4 weeks post surgery and has had a lovely Christmas with her family. Thank you again for all your help so far, it's really made a difference to Clare and Jamie so that they can focus on her recovery. I'm hoping for one last push to make these last few weeks in Australia nice and restful so she can prepare for the journey back to Scotland mid January. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Everyone! It's nearly the end of 2025 and I'm reflecting a bit on the past year. It's also been a little while since my last update. I've been recovering well from my surgery with no complications. I can't praise my health practitioners enough for the level of care I have received all through this process. The whole reason I stayed here for my surgery rather than going home to the UK was to be near to my immediate family and they did an amazing job of supporting me and my husband and kids through this time. It was a hard thing for me as a mum to put myself first. But having that support around me allowed me to take my time healing and resting and getting my mojo and energy back. Thanks to all of your amazing donations we've been able to book our flights home and give the kids a super fun Christmas Aussie-style. We can't thanks everyone enough for relieving this huge stress from our lives so we can focus on our kids and healing with my family close by. The next steps are uncertain and not yet planned but I hold in my heart all of your well wishes and lovely messages. Ladies - if you do anything in 2026, please make it regular self checks (and booking that mammogram). Blokes - encourage and remind the women in your life to do these very important things! Health and happiness in 2026 to you all! Love Clare x

A December update from Clare post surgery.... Hi everyone, The first major step in my healing journey has been a lot of things. Having major surgery for the first time would've been plenty, but the fact that it was a mastectomy brought many more emotional layers to the process. I feel a huge relief now that it's been done. Everything went really well. The hospital staff were the kindest most compassionate people and I felt incredibly thankful to be so well looked after. Now that I'm out of hospital and with my family, I can focus on getting a little better every day. Before I went into hospital, we took the kids to the Sealife Centre - they had the best time and we talk a lot about all the amazing things we saw. They're now looking forward to a hot Christmas - something very different for them! Even though I'm also looking forward to things like Christmas and getting more active, I'm concentrating on taking things one day at a time. Thanks so much for all your well wishes and healing vibes - I've been feeling the love, well and truly!  Clare xx ----- Thanks again to everyone who has donated to help Clare and her family so far. I had finally convinced her to use some of these funds to help with her recovery and every dollar will go towards this next period as her and Jamie are unable to work whilst here in Oz. Its so hard asking friends and family for money but please know that Clare is so appreciative of your financial assistance. It all helps with the day to day expenses and will also hopefully get them back to Scotland in the new year.

Here's a message from the lovely Clare herself - to all of you! Thank you so much for your donations to date. It means so much to Clare and her family as they now continue with the next part of this unexpected turn of events. ----------------- Hi everyone, All we can say to every one of you is thank you so much. We've been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity and love shown to our family. The messages of support have definitely buoyed us through the first stages of this cancer journey. The tests and scans are all complete. They have confirmed the breast cancer diagnosis and the good news is that the cancer hasn't spread further than my lymph nodes. I've now got a date for my mastectomy surgery for later in November so for the next couple of weeks we can focus on being happy and healthy and the kids living their best lives. I'm feeling positive in taking this first step towards my cure, even though it's a tough one to deal with emotionally. Thank you so much to everyone for sending me their hugs, love and prayers. Oh, and get checking yourselves! Clare xx ------------------ Can I also add at the bottom of this update that all of your donations mean SOOOOO much to Clare. We are hoping to continue fundraising so that she, Jamie and the kids can get a short term rental to stay in for the next few months and be close to the hospital and her parents, yet allow some space to recover. Short term accommodation and living costs in Australia are not cheap, and all of these donations will really help take the financial stress off Clare as she fights this terrible disease. Thank you so very much for your support!!
