My name is Lincoln Grant, I'm running 1200km IN 16 DAYS from the steps of Parliament in Canberra (ACT) to the steps at D-Bah to raise money for my dear friend Johnny Konings.
In June 2024, Johnny had a traumatic surfing accident at D-Bah which left him with a severe spinal cord injury, experiencing paralysis from his waist down and leaving him as a wheelchair user. It cut his career as a builder abruptly short and shattered so many of he and his fiancé Charlies hopes and dreams.
As a secondary blow, they find themselves in an extremely unique and equally devastating financial position trying to personally afford all of the costs involved with this traumatic and devastating diagnosis.
Originally from NZ, Johnny and Charlie have been in Australia working for too many years to receive any sort of funding assistance from the NZ Government but they haven't been in Australia long enough to become citizens yet, or to qualify for the Australian NDIS health system which would usually help out when someone suffers a spinal cord injury.
My goal is to spread awareness for SCI and raise as much money as I can to ease the financial burden Johnny finds himself in. For a spinal cord injury of his level, the support that could be expected in a NDIS plan may be upwards of 500K
Wishing you the best of luck!
