Dear Friends, Supporters, and Kind Strangers,
With heavy hearts, we share the devastating news of the passing of our dear friend, Sajeevan Selvaraj, who tragically lost his life on January 29, 2025, after drowning at St. Kilda Beach due to unexpectedly high tides. Sajeevan wasn’t just a friend—he was family to many of us. A kind soul with an ever-giving heart, he touched the lives of everyone around him with his warmth, generosity, and unwavering support.
Just a month before this tragedy, Sajeevan had graduated from RMIT University in December 2024, marking the beginning of a bright future he had worked tirelessly for. As an international student from India, he carried not only his own dreams but also the hopes of his parents and younger sister, who depended on him for a better tomorrow.
But life took a cruel turn.
Sajeevan had taken out an education loan of approximately 100,000 AUD to fund his studies, a loan that was secured against his family’s home in India. With his passing, his family is now left not only grieving an unbearable loss but also facing the terrifying reality of this debt. His parents, both unemployed, and his sister, still a student, have no means to repay it. If they cannot find a way, they risk losing their home—the only thing they have left of him.
As his friends, we are stepping forward to raise this fund on behalf of his family, who are struggling under the weight of this immense burden. Initially, we raised 12,000 AUD through GoFundMe to bring Sajeevan’s body home, ensuring he could rest in peace with his loved ones. But now, we urgently need to do more. His family is in a crisis no one should have to endure, and we are reaching out to you—to anyone who can help—to stand with them in their darkest hour.
We know this request comes a little while after his passing, but we needed time to complete formalities and fully understand the depth of his family’s struggles. This campaign is not just about raising money—it is about standing in solidarity with Sajeevan’s family, offering them hope when they have none.
Sajeevan was always the first to step forward when someone needed help. Now, it is our turn to do the same for him.
We are aiming to raise 60,000 USD to help his family settle this loan and keep their home. Every dollar contributed will go directly to his father’s bank account in India to ensure the funds reach them securely.
No donation is too small—every contribution is a lifeline for his family. If you are unable to donate, please share this message with others who may be able to help. Your support, in any form, means the world to us.
We are doing this on behalf of Sajeevan’s family, to ease their suffering and give them the stability he worked so hard to provide for them. Let’s show them that they are not alone.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, for sharing, and for supporting us in this mission. Your kindness will make an immeasurable difference in the lives of a grieving family.
With deepest gratitude,
Sajeevan’s Friends
📌 Note: 100% of the funds raised will be directly transferred to Sajeevan’s father’s bank account in India. We are committed to full transparency and will provide regular updates throughout this campaign.
