Over the past 6 years, Jonathan and Kath Morris have been working on building a school in Engaruka, Tanzania, following the tragic loss of their son Marcus in 2017. Marcus was Martin’s godson and Paul was Marcus’ school chaplain at Shore School. And no, we're not related! Engaruka is an isolated town 3 hours drive west of Arusha where literacy rates are incredibly low because so few of the local Maasai children go to school, and so kids in this part of the world need access to good education to help break the cycle of poverty. Given the generosity of earlier donors, Jonathan & Kath have now been able to build a boarding house, staff accommodation, and 3 classrooms, and the plan is for the school to open in early 2025. However, additional funds are needed to enable more classrooms to be built as the school grows. In late October / early November we’re undertaking a fundraiser with the aim of cycling from Sydney to Mollymook on the NSW South Coast, which is a distance of about 250 kilometres. Is this possible? We don’t know, but we’re aiming to travel as far as we can!! Donations are tax deductible and will be matched up to $50,000 by the Macquarie Group Foundation.
