My 8yo Nephew Marshall was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia on May 9th after being sick for 5 weeks with phenomenon and leg pains.
His amazing mother is doing it on her own and has always worked full time to support the 2 of them but she had just started a new job 1 week befor Marshall stated to get sick and after 5 weeks and only days befor they recieved Marshall's diagnosis she was let go from her new position as she had not been able to be there as Marshall was too sick.
Marshall is 2 weeks into his 1st 4 weeks of intensive treatment and chemo, he has already had some of the most incredibly rough days, befor all this marshall had to be sedated to even have a blood test he was so afraid of needles and now he has already had more than he can count. He had always had long hair and it was his thing, part of his personality and he had never had more than a trim in his life but last week his hair had to be cut and this was incredibly traumatic. We are hoping to have a wig made and he is being support to with this. Marshall and his mum have had to stay away from home as they have to stay at or close to the hospital and are not allowed to return home for weeks yet. The doctors are saying this is the start of a 2 year fight and already savings and funds are drained. Marshall's mum has always supported herself and Marshall and is the most incredibly independent person, she would never ask for help but they have been put in a position that this is not an option. Centerlink payments have commenced but this is only enough to cover their rent. I can't believe a single parent is not supported more financially through what is every parents worse nightmare but the reality is they aren't. I have started this to try to help them with their everyday cost around being away from home, medications and bills to try to relieve some stress.
