The former Bank of Victoria in the tiny town of Toora, South Gippsland, is a unique wooden structure built in 1906 and decommissioned in 1942.
Melbourne motor mechanic and history-lover Andrew Scott, along with a partner, purchased the building in 2008 and began its painstaking restoration, achieving very good results until a change in personal circumstances led to a 15-year hiatus which has seen very significant deterioration to the heritage-listed wooden facade.
At the beginning of 2024, Andrew took up residence in the building and committed to completing the work that will see it restored to its former glory. While he has the sensitivity, expertise and dedication to complete the task himself, funds are an issue.
On behalf of Andrew, his Toora neighbour Anne Roussac-Hoyne is inviting you to join her in making a financial contribution, however large or small, to help provide the materials Andrew will need to restore this Toora icon, which has featured in a number of films, including the 1984 AFI-award nominated 'Strikebound', based on the coalminers' strike in 1930s Australia.
This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of living history. Any contribution you feel able to make will be very greatly appreciated.
