Run For Tom

Run For Tom is a 1-day fundraising event where we are asking YOU to get involved by getting outside on Saturday 25th May, wherever you are in the world, to run, walk or wheel your way to whatever distance you can do. We then ask you to share it on your social media and donate to our cause, with all funds raised going to one of two wonderful charities, Winston’s Wish in the UK and Feel the Magic in Australia, who support bereaved children.

Harrison, Tom’s brother, has set his task of running his first ultra-marathon – 80km (50 miles) from Bondi to Manly in Sydney, Australia. However, this is not about who can go the furthest or who can be the fastest, this is about as many of you as possible getting outside and doing whatever you can as your Run For Tom.

All this is in memory of our amazing brother/son/husband/dad Tom. Tom loved the outdoors, he loved a tough hike or his regular 10k runs with friends and we thought what better way to do something in Tom’s memory than getting the sun (or rain!) on your face, taking a moment to remember Tom and donating to what I’m sure you’ll all agree is a very worthy cause.

Tom was living a normal life at the age of 21 when his life was flipped on its head after being diagnosed with ocular melanoma. After going into remission, Tom’s cancer returned a few years later and he soon started on immunotherapy treatment. In this time, Tom married his wife Juliette and they soon brought their two beautiful children into the world, Amelie and Toby.

Tom’s cancer remained stable for a number of years but his situation changed in mid-2022. Having exhausted his treatment options and with his cancer progressing, Tom, Juliette, Amelie and Toby spent time over the next few months creating some amazing memories including seeing Santa in Lapland! Tom sadly passed away on 12th January 2023, leaving behind a beautiful, young family.

Tom is missed terribly by everyone. We think about him every day and the legacy he leaves behind will last a lifetime. We have amazing memories of the times we shared with him. However, for Amelie (7) and Toby (5), there will be so many events in their lives where the loss of their dad will be keenly felt but we know how proud Tom would be of the kind, gentle and caring children they are growing into.

Children are being affected by bereavement on a daily basis and it is so important they have access to the right support in this difficult and delicate time of their lives. For this reason, we have decided to split all funds raised between two charities, Winston’s Wish in the UK and Feel the Magic in Australia, both of which support bereaved children and teenagers and give them access to the support they need.
