"Swimming for a Cure: Our Journey from Perth to Rottnest Island"
This year, we embark on a deeply personal and challenging journey, swimming 20km as a team of four from Perth to Rottnest Island. Our motivation is a tribute to James’s beloved brother Michael, who lost his battle to brain cancer in 2023. This swim is not just a physical challenge; it's a heartfelt commitment to make a difference in the fight against this devastating disease.
Brain cancer remains one of the most lethal forms of cancer in Australia, with a five-year survival rate of just 22%. Around 1,896 people are diagnosed with brain cancer in Australia annually and approximately 1,528 die from the disease every year.
It's the leading cause of cancer-related death in Australians under the age of 40, and the second highest in children under 15. Despite these alarming statistics, research funding for brain cancer has traditionally been limited.
In our effort, "Rottnest Channel Swim - Cure Brain Cancer Fundraiser," we aim to raise awareness and much-needed funds for brain cancer research.
We hope for a future where this disease can be effectively treated or cured.
Thank you for all your support, it means the world.
