Hi everyone! My name is Marina and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. In 2022 I had a pain in my back which resulted in a tumour in the spine and cancer which had spread to my lungs (soft tissue sarcoma). Luckily, I had radiation for the tumour and started hormonal treatment straight away. Since I finished the radiation, I've been able to go back to my normal life. I work full time as a Senior HR Business Partner, have 2 kids that were born in Australia, a loving husband and I love exercising- which is where my fundraising idea came from. This year I turn 50 and I have been thinking that I would like to help an organisation that supports this type of cancer, as it is not a common one. In fact, my medication is not even covered by Medicare as it is classified as breast cancer, not sarcoma. I have organised a long walk with all of my friends, and anyone else who would like to join me to raise funds and awareness about this type of cancer. This walk will be FREE and I am encouraging everyone to join me in this challenge as we walk together while making a difference. A 10km walk will also be available for those who want to join! As I set this goal for 2024, I’m grateful to be supported by the Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association and feel happy that I can live my normal life, being mindful of what I can do as I'm still on treatment.
