Raising funds for: Paul Ryan

Some of you may know that Paul Ryan has recently received a diagnosis of Stage 4 brain cancer. Paul has made an impact on many of us during his 14 years at Suncorp, most recently as Suncorp's Privacy Officer. Many of our Suncorp colleagues would like to support Paul and his family as he undergoes chemo and radiation to prolong his time with his family. If we fundraise through this platform, we are eligible for dollar matching- to maximise the funds that will go directly to support Paul, his wife and two sons as they navigate such a difficult time. Paul is a true Suncorp legend, and we ask that you lean in to support him and his family by making a donation, sending words of support or sharing this fundraiser with people who may wish to help. A message from the man himself: Hi everyone, Warning! This email is mostly to say thank you but there is some detail about my diagnosis and treatment below, nothing too awful I promise. Also as you can see there are a bunch of recipients on this DL so be careful not to reply all and please don’t feel obliged to reply to me either. It’s just an update and I hope to see and talk to a lot of you in person sometime soon anyway. ? Kirsty, William, Samuel and me have been totally overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the Risk community and Suncorp. On behalf of all of us, thank you so much for your generous support. A special thanks to Mel and Victoria for setting up this fundraiser and to my boss Adrian and the Suncorp leadership team who have supported me and my family every step of the way. I am writing this email with tears in my eyes thinking of how incredibly fortunate I have been to have worked at Suncorp for over 14 years now and it really does come down to each one of you, your passion for Risk and your passion for making a difference in people’s lives – our customers, our communities, our partners and colleagues and now me and my family. Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive form of brain cancer but I am pretty determined too. I recently finished the first stage of my treatment – six weeks of radiation and chemo. I was lucky not to experience serious side effects during the first stage of treatment aside from a bit fatigue in the past couple of weeks. I am having a one month break now and will restart chemo for six months in late July. While there is no cure for GBM the treatment which I am responding to well can slow the growth and spread of the cancer. Right now I am fit and strong and still working out at F45 every day which is great for my physical and mental well-being. I will do this for Kirsty and the boys for as long as possible, years preferably. ? I am so grateful for the love and support of friends and colleagues and mindful of the personal challenges we face in our daily lives. Never be afraid to ask for help or to ask someone if they need help. Believe me the smallest acts of kindness make an enormous difference in people’s lives.
