Early this year I lost a lifelong childhood friend, one that was like a brother to me. His absence has left a massive whole in his mothers heart. She was his world, as he was hers. When we were younger I always promised I’d be there for them if anything ever happened. Never imagined the day would come so soon. In honour of my promise, I’ve signed up for a Last Man Standing Ultramarathon. The idea here is to raise some additional financial support for her, as I know he was a significant contributor for the family. I’m hoping to ease the financial burden, and ultimately make life a little easier for her as she continues to grieve. So… Friday August 11th, I’ll be lacing up and competing in a backyard ultramarathon in Brisbane. Every hour on the hour, you must begin and complete a 6.7km loop of the course. This keeps going until either you don’t make it back on time, or you refuse to start the next lap. Pretty sure it’s a form of torture, but that’s what I’m willing to do for this friends family. Going to be hell, but I’ll assure you I’ll get as deep into the hurt locker as possible.
