I went to be with my 20+ year old dog on Tuesday 9th May at 5.00pm before she was euthanized. I picked her frozen body up on Friday 10th May, 11.30am. She was 20+ years and had been in “protective custody” with a well known animal welfare charity for two months. They tried to force me to sign a euthanasia form and when I wouldn't, they seized her. (You don’t get to live to 140 years (human years) if you aren’t loved and cared for.) Actually, I realized later, she was the “sacrificial lamb” for their "proposed sting" where they removed all my animals and the cats I was working with the council to rehome. I am so sad that her last two months were so awful and that I was powerless to prevent this. I must go to court soon to answer charges, such as "hindering other person exercising Authority under ACT", in other words trying to get out of the place with my dog - not touching anyone, and not taking another dog back to the vet after my dog had been seized! etc!!!) I contacted Legal Aide, and they said that if I pleaded “guilty” they could represent me, but if I pleaded “Not guilty” I would have to find my own legal representation. We need to stop these insensitive, draconian decisions that the "Animal Welfare Charities" make without any background knowledge or sensitivity and or subjective bias. I would warn people against taking up their "low-income treatment program", because the same fate might befall you. Have you been treated badly by an animal charity, having your rights stripped? Have they insisted on euthanasia because your dog is old? Have they tricked you and not communicated important things to you, until it’s too late? Please let me know your story and Sign the petition that challenges their ABUSE OF POWER. I URGENTLY ask for donations to get legal representation, as I have just started a new job and don’t have any money saved. Your help will make a difference in my life and help me get my animals back! I also intend to start a not-for-profit that will provide low income earners money and treatment for their animals if they can’t afford it….with your support. But for now I need legal services to defend myself against charges that are untrue.
