About

My name is Sascha Meyer and I am a 37 years old who was born and raised in Germany. I decided to travel to Australia over 16 years ago and it very quickly became my home.

Almost 10 years ago, my Mum was diagnosed with acute liver disease and became critically ill – the irony is that she had been healthy all her life up to that stage and rarely drank a drop of alcohol. The impact of her liver failure on her body was devastating - her weight dropped from 63kg to 42kg in a short period of time and she had many other complications as a result. Mum received a liver transplant and thanks to an amazing medical team, her life has been transformed.

In April 2023 I ran 30km everyday for 30 days to raise awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation and to raise much needed funds to assist the RPA Transplant Institute to continue their research to achieve better health outcomes for transplant recipients like my Mum.

On the 1st of July 2024, I will be embarking on an incredible journey to run from Brisbane to Sydney, a distance of approximately 1000 kilometres. This journey will take me through some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain in Australia, as I make my way south towards Sydney.

My goal for this journey is to raise awareness for organ transplants and the importance of organ donation. Organ transplants save countless lives every year, and it's important that we continue to support this life-saving practice.

I anticipate that this journey will take me around 10 days (around 100km a day) to break the current record. It will be a physically demanding challenge, but I am determined to push myself to my limits and raise awareness for this important cause.

I hope that through my run, I can inspire others to become organ donors and help save lives. Together, we can make a difference and help those in need of life-saving transplants.
Please, donate if you can!
