Bali Monkey Rescue

Bali Monkey Rescue is dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating Long Tailed monkeys. There is no legislation in place to protect these species, so many are subjected to life in chains, filthy cages, neglect and abuse, and medical research.

Monkeys arrive at our centre malnourished and traumatised with serious behavioural problems such as pacing, rocking, self-harm and food issues.

The psychological damage that occurs in primates that have been kept as pets shows when they are handed over to our private sanctuary. We have become the only registered monkey sanctuary for the unprotected Long Tailed Macaque Monkeys in Bali and besides rescuing monkeys from horrific situations, we seek to provide education about monkeys as well as an end to illegal poaching and trading of monkeys in Bali. ​

After being rescued, the naturally social Long Tailed Macaques are often afraid of their own kind and need long-term rehabilitation and care to integrate into natural groups. This is important because only then will they be able to live with other monkeys as they were meant to. ​

Bali Monkey Rescue meets the need for healing and rehabilitation by providing a safe haven from fear and hunger, with the best medical care, love and patience for the victims of this illegal trade. ​

We are self-funded to carry the costs of this ever-growing problem. Sadly, our resident monkeys cannot return to the wild but will spend the rest of their lives under the protection of Bali Monkey Rescue where they live as an extended family unit.
