Oliver Lubberink is a Griffith Paramedicine student, who was in Thailand on holidays scuba-diving and was planning to do an internship at a Thai Hospital (NGO). Oliver had excruciating pain in his shoulder which was eventually diagnosed as a staph infection which developed into sepsis and he also acquired Pneumonia. He is in a serious condition and required arthroscopic surgery to his shoulder and is currently on a ventilator and intubated. We were informed last night (10 Feb) that he has deteriorated even further.
Though his surgery was a success, and his family were able to join him at his side in Bangkok; the financial burden for his past, present and future care has fallen to himself and his family, with the total cost likely to breach into the extraordinary.
However, with a little help from his friends, family, peers and community we may be able lessen the burden. From little things, big things can grow and with a contribution from those within his circles he may be able to focus more on getting better, and less on how he’s going to get there.
Get better soon my man
