Each ANZAC Day, the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross provides a spectacular setting for one of the largest dawn services in Victoria. The dawn service is a commemorative event that honours the sacrifice of veterans and their families, salutes their service and seeks to learn from the experiences of Defence Force members. Known for being held in the solemn setting of the mountain at dawn, the experience of the rising sun striking the Memorial Cross as the lone piper plays is especially memorable. The dawn service includes readings and songs by local high school students, with local organisations laying wreaths. It is not only an important tribute to those who have served, but provides the Macedon Ranges community a rare opportunity to inform and reflect on the realities of armed conflict. The dawn service is organised by a small volunteer committee. It takes from October to April to prepare for the day, including many government approvals, liaison and coordination across dozens of organisations, and research to prepare the service stories. With costs rising every year for traffic management, audio visuals, and supporting expenses, we seek your support to cover the shortfall. If you appreciate and respect the Dawn Service, please donate. Any contribution will assist greatly.
