My friends and I are taking part in the 100km bike ride from Brisbane to Gold Coast on Sunday 23 October 2022 and this year we are supporting a cause that is very close to our hearts.
The Taliban regime has banned girls from secondary education in Afghanistan. Afghan girls haven't been allowed to go to high school since the Taliban seized power on 15th of August 2021. Additionally, on 30th September 2022, a suicide bombing attack at a school in Dasht-e-Barchi, a Hazara community, killed at least 60 Hazara students, mostly young girls, and injured more than 100 others. These girls were killed in their pursuit of education.
There is a lack of response to the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan by the international community, exacerbated by a violent and fatal crackdown on those who oppose the ban in Afghanistan.
For this reason, we are supporting Akademos Society, a registered charity organisation based in Australia.
The objective of this fundraising is to enable disadvantaged girls to realise their full academic potential through the provision of financial grants, scholarships, academic assistance, and other educational and learning opportunities. Educating women is one of the most effective ways of providing a sustainable and prosperous future for Afghanistan.
100% of your money will be spent on girls’ education in Afghanistan and your donation is tax deductible.
