On Saturday 27th August, the home of long time Albany Creek residents, George & Lea Nielsen was overtaken by fire.
Within minutes they lost almost everything but thank you to brave neighbours, both George & Lea were saved. After jumping the back fence Lea was dragged to the road from the inferno by two men while George was encouraged away from his garden hose by another. George was attempting to fight the fire on his own until emergency services arrived.
Both in their 60's and passionate meals on wheels volunteers, George & Lea have a long road ahead. Lea will be hospitalised indefinitely & George is being cared for by his children, grandchildren, neighbours & friends.
Whilst the insurance process has begun, the road ahead is long & hard. In order to lighten their load, we are appealing to anyone who may be in a position to help fund the initial recovery & rehoming process.
Thank you to all emergency services, the brave neighbours who saved two lives that day & many others who offered hugs, a hand to hold & the relocation of their car to a safe place. We are so very grateful.
Sorry to hear this has happened. Please know there are lots of people who care for you.
