Ezekiel Siakimotu Makani y DOB 5th Dec 2015 Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Australian born Niuean??
Ezekiel more commonly known as Zeki is the is the youngest son of Rachel and Allan Makani. Parents of a large and loving family originally from Niue island located in the Pacific close to Tonga. Zeki was a chubby little one adored by his four older siblings and his nieces and nephews who are of the same age, who loved doing all the things kids love to do. Playing on the trampoline, riding his bike going to Sunday school and church each Sunday.
In the June school holidays 2021 at the age of 51/2 Zeki had a fall while at daycare. For the next 4 weeks Zeki complained of a painful right knee. After numerous doctor visits with varying suggestions for care Zeki was still in pain. Rachel describes what happened next…
“On the morning of Thursday July 22nd 2021 I felt that the lord was telling me, :”This will be the day where you’re going to find out what’s exactly wrong with Ezekiel’s knee & going to find out what he’s needing.”
Rachel and Zeki were sent to Sydney Childrens Hospital Randwick for scanning. Twenty four hours later Rachel was told Zeki had cancer in his hip and both both thighs caused by a tumour in his stomach called Neuroblastoma.?
“As one could imagine we’ve had the dynamics of our family core ripped apart & literally turned upside all overnight. However as family we come together, make do & rearrange life to deal with this and make things easier on everyone.”
“It has been a year since we landed on this cancer carousel. It silently becomes a dead weight.&You could almost describe it as a life sentence for all the family members because the domino effect is mind-blowing. hardly see & spend time with our 12 year old daughter Loula because of the 24/7 care Zeki needs. From the doctors, surgeons, nurses, social wprkers, and hospital school at Sydney Childrens Hospital Randwick we are undoubtedly being cared for by a great team that specialise in neuroblastoma. Their tireless compassion & that they’re all are for the same favourable outcome is encouraging & comforting.”
From July 2021 to Xmas 2021 Ezekiel had general chemotherapy & antibodies which dealt with the cancer in the thighs & right hip ? Unfortunately, in February 2023 Rachel and Allan were given the news that Zekis’s tumour had expanded & had taken over the right hand side side of his belly. On the 10 March Zeki underwent surgery to attempt to remove the tumour.
Unfortunately, the demon was back by Sunday 8th May - Mother’s Day. Again, Zeki’s team of Doctors hit the ground running - contingency plan in tow. Zeki underwent rounds of radiation and chemotherapy and after 9 weeks Rachel and Allan’s prayers were answered and Zeki’s tumour had shrunk.
There is still a long and hard road of many more months of intensive and painful treatment for Zeki and his family. Zeki has been scheduled for a Bone Marrow Transplant which requires arduous radiation and stem cell collection.
Through all of this Rachel and Zeki have been separated from their family for much of his treatment due to Covid. Rachel who’s income helped support the family has been unable to work. No only are this wonderful family dealing with this horrible disease but financial pressure is coming to bear.
“I’m just so eternally grateful to the lord that Australia is this blessed and we are being given the best care that Ezekiel deserves. We are praying that there will be a candlelight shining at the the end of this tunnel in the near future ?
Iehova he vahaloto ????May our lord bless us all Thank you x
