Kaela’s sarcoma month fundraiser

Did you know July is Sarcoma awareness month?
I am a mother of two, a veteran and nurse, but In 2020 my life changed forever when what I thought was a torn muscle in my right thigh was actually a stage 4 soft tissue synovial sarcoma.

After surgery, intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy (plus 100 complications including heart failure, lymphoedema, pulmonary edema, pericardial effusions , multiple week long hospital stays from complications and ongoing trauma) I managed to defy the odds and rid the sarcoma (thanks to my amazing oncology team and drive to survive for my two babies and family).

However last week after a regular 3 monthly PET scan we discovered metastasis in both of my lungs. The hope is that I will be able to have surgery in Sydney (which we now think may be possible after hearing from a Sydney specialist) If surgery is not possible or successful then I will become incurable and will require more chemotherapy to prolong my life. But I have faith surgery will work, I just have to keep fighting again!

My hope is to help fund critical research for this rare and aggressive cancer. If it can’t help me then I pray to God it can help others.

About Sarcoma: Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that begins in the connective tissue such as body fat, muscle, blood vessles, bone and cartilage. Sarcoma is extremely rare and aggressive, it often presents as a lump or the sensation of a pulled muscle - hence the serious nature of this disease as more times than not, by the time you get it checked out it can be too late.
