Chop for the children, bald for the babies, I'm shaving my head for a good cause.

When I was 19, and volunteering in Malawi with Mphatso Children's Foundation, I was asked by one of the lovely Nursery school teachers, Isabel, what I looked like with a shaved head. I had a bit of a chuckle and told her that I had not been bald since I was a baby. All kids in Malawi to have to have shaved heads to go to school, for hygiene reasons. She was amazed that, at the time, I didn't know any woman in Australia who had shaved their heads and very casually told me I should do it, just to see what I looked like.

I remember having a little laugh to myself about how casual the suggestion was, for me to shave off my long my hair that I'd been growing with all my might, since a traumatic hair cut when I was 13 (thanks mum).

That day, I decided that one day I was going to shaved my head, to raise money for Mphatso Children's Foundation and "just to see what it looks like".

That conversation happened just over 10 years ago now! So it's about bloody time I get too it!

Mphatso is a multifaceted non-profit organisation that supports the local communities around Kandi in Malawi. They have baby feeding programs, feed hundreds of children and run nursery schools in surrounding villages. They support local women with positive living groups, run training programs that range from agriculture, health, professional development, provide education for young mothers and vulnerable people AND they provide much needed emergency relief.

The hair will go in the first week of September, or when I hit my target, whichever happens first. I'd love to raise $4000, which is more than I've raised before.

So psyched (terrified) for all the awkward stages of growing back hair!
