About
In June 1923, the 14-strong Polonsky Family disembarked in Melbourne, having left Ukraine by train in January. The group included their widowed mother, Chassia, widowed sister Mechlia Spivakovsky, and her children, Harry and Rae, widowed brother Myer with his children Pearl, Susie and Peter, Aron with his bride Rita, Jack with his bride Shiphra, Ben and Alec. The family waited some months in the Georgian Black Sea port of Batumi for sea transport to Constantinople (Istanbul) where they celebrated Pesach with their brother Yochanan (Efim) who had travelled from Australia to meet them. Yochanan volunteered with the joint while waiting for them. The migration cost more than £2,000 which was paid by their eldest brother, Raphael, a merchant, who looked after his family until all were fully settled in Australia.
The Joint Australia, which launched in September 2012, is the first official branch of the organisation outside Israel and North America. The Joint Australia was formed to promote the work of The Joint and raise funds to support its ongoing mission of rescue, relief and renewal of Jewish life.

What a wonderful idea to donate to this charity as a recognition of Sharron and all the Polonsky family members who are contributing to this reunion. I look forward to our centenary reunion.
