On Saturday, the 2nd of July, the Radio Lollipop Gold Coast team will be out in force at the Gold Coast Airport 5km Fun Run. Our volunteers will be blowing bubbles, handing out stickers, and dressed in the whackiest costumes to raise money for our service (and get our steps in).
Radio Lollipop believes in the healing power of play - providing smiles and laughter to children when they need it most. Based out of the Gold Coast University Hospital, our volunteers host a children's radio show, facilitate games and crafts in our dedicated playroom, and provide care, comfort, play and entertainment to children and their families through an individualised bedside play service.
Our service is so effective at providing a fun and creative escape for children that the Mater Hospital reported saving over $400,000 in our first year of operation from un-administered pain medication. Similarly, a study at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth, Western Australia, reported an 82% reduction in requests for pain medication after Radio Lollipop. Now, we are asking for your support to help keep us on air so we can continue improving the hospital stay of children at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
