On behalf of Alana’s family and friends, this fundraiser has been created to support our beautiful friend Alana in her long battle with cancer-related illnesses.
This year was set to be Alana’s greatest; she was feeling good within herself and keen to move forward with her life, watch her girls grow, and get outdoors more post-COVID to spend time with family and friends.
Unfortunately, in March 2022, Alana began experiencing excruciating back pain. Upon receiving scans ordered by her Oncologist, Alana was told she had cancer in the bone of her spine in the T-11. An adenocarcinoma that measures 1-1 to 1/2 cm. Her bone has started to erode, which will make it easier for her to fracture her back. Last week she received five radiation sessions to shrink it and ease some pain hopefully. If this isn’t successful, they will give Alana vertebroplasty, which is where they will inject her bone with something similar to cement, and it will set in her spine to hopefully make it stronger and cause less pain. The excruciating pain she is experiencing is referred pain because it pushes against her nerve. Over the next few weeks, she will then commence another round of Chemotherapy.
This isn’t the first cancer diagnosis Alana and her family have endured. Back in 2014, at the age of 27 and with two young children Zariah (5) Angelle (2), Alana was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer; after intensive surgery to remove cancerous cells and save her bowel, Alana then required another emergency surgery six weeks later on her bowel and stomach due to complications caused by the initial surgery.
Almost hitting the 5-year cancer-free mark in 2019, Alana was then diagnosed with ovarian cancer and forced to undergo lifesaving surgery to remove her reproductive organs at the very young age of just 33, which also through her into early menopause. The surgeon could not remove three lymph nodes because they were located in such a hard to get too and dangerous position close to her spine. Since this, Alana now has cancer spots on her lungs, cancer in 2 lymph nodes in her chest, and one lymph node in her neck. Doctors have told Alana that her cancers are incurable. However, many integrated Doctors are helping Alana and giving her and her family more hope.
Over the years, Alana has undergone many rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy and has taken many medications, which have resulted in harsh side effects and nerve damage. Alana and her family are continually looking into alternative treatments; however, with these treatments comes high expense. Alana has been unable to earn an income via working over the years primarily due to the therapies already performed, medication, pain, ongoing diagnosis, and COVID and currently spends most of her days in bed resting due to being in so much pain and suffering from side effects from her pain medication.
Those closest to Alana know she is very independent; she is a fighter! She has been fighting this for eight years. She never complains and never asks for help. Unfortunately, Alana has hit a time in her cancer journey when everything is getting too much. She’s incredibly down and emotional as she feels like she’s a burden to those who love her. We all know this couldn’t be further from the truth. We believe that this fundraiser will allow a range of different people from Alana’s past and present to be able to contribute to her healing by donating.
All funds raised will go directly to Alana and her family so that she can pay for expensive alternative treatments and medication that will allow her to be relieved from pain. We know this fundraiser would help Alana feel more comfortable and in control of being able to pay for her future expenses with less stress and financial struggles and give her the independence that she genuinely deserves.
We’re all so proud of your strength and determination, Alana. We hope this fundraiser can help give you some relief and more precious pain-free moments.
Thank you for reading Alana’s fight, and thank you very much for your donations. Please share with all your family and friends, and please ensure you save your donation receipt for taxation purposes.
All our love today and every day Lani Xx Rae, Dave & Eva xx
