My name is Oksana Korzhova and I am originally from Kriviy Rih in the Ukraine. I am sure you are all well aware of the terrible situation that my fellow countryman and women find themselves in, due to the cruel, aggressive, and unfair circumstances that has been forced upon them. The 24th of February 2022 has understandably changed the life of every single Ukrainian. In my particular case the war has separated my family in three parts. My sister-in-law and two nieces were able to evacuate to Poland and are staying in Gdansk for now. My Father however has not been able to evacuate my hometown Kriviy Rih because he has very limited mobility due to medical conditions and has to live with sirens sounding every single day. My brother – Andrii Makedon, 18.08.1973, is fighting as a soldier for 17th Separate Kriviy Rih Tank Brigade of Kostyantin Pestushko, 2nd company, 3rd platoon for his countries freedom and right to exist for the second time in his life. He served in the army in 2014 in the Donetsk region for one year, where he survived after been captured in the Ilovaisk massacre in August of the same year. He is presently fighting with his platoon on the border between Kherson and Dnepropetrovsk areas. Because it is full scale war now, and not just local region as it was before in 2014, the conditions in which our soldiers have to survive today has become almost unbearable at this point. Andrii will never complain or talk about how difficult it is in our short conversations – he does not want make our Dad or me worry about him. From the little pieces of information that I received from my sister-in-law, the truth is: some of the soldiers are still wearing the same clothes they arrived in, they have not been able to take a proper shower and shave for over a month, volunteers were only able to deliver a little bit hot food 5 days ago, they have to sleep in trenches and it is always freezing even though it is spring time in Ukraine (picture is attached). As you can imagine logistics during active war in the country is almost non-existent, even though Ukraine has received a lot of donations from different countries this help can take an extremely long time; if at all to reach every single part of the army. After talking with my brother about the current situation, I realise the only real way to help him and his platoon would be to organise personal fundraiser, find the volunteers in Kriviy Rih who can search for the required equipment and then find volunteers who will delivery all purchased items to them. So far, I have managed to organise a group of active volunteers whom I trust that would be able to purchase and deliver the goods. All I really need now is to collect enough funds to purchase the required equipment. I am capable to buy everything just for my brother however he will never except help just for him - I know him to well. I have written a list of what they require. Some of items needed are for individual use so we need to purchased 10 items as per the number of soldiers in the platoon. 1. Night vision device 2. Army binocular 3. 10 Sleeping bags 4. Cigarettes – 1 box 5. Emergency lighting 6. Military uniform size 56 and up 7. Periodically food supplies 8. Delivery expenses Due to all supply issues and the unpredictability of the prices I believe that if I am able to raise a total of $4500 it should cover all the required items. If there is any money left after the required purchases have been made, it will be donated to the soldiers from 17th Separate Kriviy Rih Tank Brigade of Kostyantin Pestushko injured during this war for rehabilitation. I will post a picture of everything once purchased and sent to Andrii and his platoon so you can follow the situation and see that funds have only been used for the purpose stated above. PS. As a responsible person I sent several donations to the official sites however my brother and soldiers from his platoon still freezing in the trenches. I still believe in the official sites fundraising and will send money there again however after I make sure my brother received as much support as he and his platoon needed to continue to protect Ukraine.
My thoughts and prayers with the brothers and sisters fighting the war in Ukraine
