Hi there,
My name is Jordan, on the evening of Saturday the 12th of February, my mum was attending a rally in Canberra. United with her friends, brothers and sisters, she was finally living her dream, fighting for her beliefs, after years of devotion and commitment to others in the past, it was finally her time to be free.
On that Saturday night, Carla experienced intense head pain along with numbness in her tongue, left arm and left leg. She was terrified, as she knew that in this moment, she was having a stroke.
Thankfully, due to the heroic efforts of bystanders, Carla was swiftly brought to hospital. Emergency Surgery was performed by amazing doctors, which in-turn saved her life.
This life-altering event demanded of Carla to essentially start again, day-by-day she is battling hard to (slowly) recover the basic automatic skills we take for granted. Slowly, regaining her consciousness, then talking, eating, drinking and with hope to one day walk and use her arms freely. But for now she is bound to a bed.
Whilst facing constant hurdles, we are working to get Carla transported to Melbourne (from Canberra) as soon as possible. At the time of writing this, the public hospital that has been recommended to Carla to move to for full-time rehab in Melbourne is at maximum capacity. We are considering options in the private sector but with limited funding available this isn't a reasonable option.
At the moment, with shortages in crucial staff and resources, we have no time-frame of when we can get Carla back to Melbourne to be with her immediate family and friends and to receive the best possible care.
Carla has been a beacon of light for a large number of people, her selflessness and compassion has touched the lives of many. She has devoted a significant amount of her time to serve others, including being a nurse for 25 years.
As the situation calls for it, I truly believe it's Carla's turn to receive that compassion in return, as the long road ahead will be difficult and challenging, she needs our help. All proceeding will go towards her on-going rehabilitation and support fee's to help Carla, one day, dance again.
