In October 2021, Charlie Boniface was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, a life-shortening degenerative disease with no cure. Despite the best care, his condition deteriorated quicker than we ever expected. Charlie passed away in hospital on Wednesday 2nd of March 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is the name for a group of diseases that affects particular nerves known as motor nerves, or motor neurons. In MND, those neurons generate and die and slowly the muscles become weaker. In Charlie’s case, this severely impacted his respiratory function.
We are so grateful for any and all contributions to help us raise funds to find a cure for this devastating disease.
Motor Neurone Disease Research Australia (MNDRA), the research arm of MND Australia, promotes and funds medical and scientific research to understand the causes, find effective treatments and discover cures for MND.
