I won’t go too in depth into this but, I’ve been going through some stuff recently which has led me down a road resulting in what I’ve always known but chosen not to seriously act upon. I need to take better care of myself mentally and physically. It’s been a long time but I am restarting this fundraising campaign. Out of my many (many) weight loss attempts I have tried this by far was the most successful. While it invites vulnerability into a scenario that I already am insecure about it is hoped with help and support I will be able to come out the other side mentally and physically stronger while putting some good into the world by raising some money for Musician’s Making a Difference and The Black Dog Institute. Compared to the first ‘Gus is Losin It’ I have a team of doctors, nutritionists, exercise physiotherapists and mental health counselors to help me along this journey in the hopes that I can make this the last weight loss attempt and won’t ‘yo-yo’ between different weights. I’ll be updating the amount of weight I lose here weekly (under Progress) so you can keep track of my journey - I’ll be fundraising from the 25th of January 2022 through to the 31st of March 2023. I understand not everyone can donate (and some of you may not want too) and that’s completely fine. If you want to help out and can’t donate please feel free to reach out. Support could just be checking in, asking to go for a walk anything no matter how small you think it is would be greatly appreciated. For those of you who would like to donate I’d like to firstly say thank you - these are two causes which I feel strongly about and your support of them and my challenge is greatly appreciated. In the previous challenge some people chose to donate vs how much weight I lost which is also doable as you can enter a custom donation amount above. I will also be donating 50% of the cost of an uber eats order each week ;) Thanks for taking the time to read this and your support it is greatly appreciated. As the weight loss slows down and I get more toward an ‘ideal’ weight for my height etc and start focusing my training toward gaining muscle mass and toning loose skin from significant weight loss I probably won’t be doing a huge amount of progress updates (as far as weight loss targets go etc). However today was a pretty big milestone for me that I thought I’d do a cheeky post about here. Today I crossed over 80kg lost in total since Jan 26 2022 but I also weighed in under 100kg for the first time since I was likely 11/12 years old, this was a pretty surreal thought for me. Again, still a way to go and some things are much easier both physically and mentally than they ever have been and I’m also faced with new challenges that I’m getting used to as my body continues to change. But luckily I’m surrounded by an amazing group of people who have been incredibly supportive so a huge thank you for all the love and support and I’ll keep you updated on the journey as it continues on. Thanks again <3

So, today I just passed 70kg lost since Jan of this year. It's a pretty surreal feeling, and honestly, while I can see a difference in photos and progress is evident through my endurance and clothing size, I still struggle to see it without the reminders of putting on my old clothes or looking at the photos. It hasn't been too long of a fitness journey (we are getting close to a year but aren't quite there yet) but I can't remember the baseline for how I was physically feeling in that size. Mentally, time and self-care in this aspect have helped me move through many things dragging me down. Like everyone, I still have bad days, but they seem to be less frequent, or instead of being bogged down and emotionally stuck for a day, I can un-hook and it might only last an hour or so, and I can acknowledge the feeling and continue working toward where I want to be. I think for a long time, I was stuck in this state of pseudo-happiness where I was trying to make the people around me happy as a form of making myself happy (My favourite actor Robin Williams has a great quote that I think sums this feeling up better than I could “I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it's like to feel absolutely worthless and they don't want anyone else to feel like that.”) But this is slowly changing too. I love helping others, and it still brings me a lot of joy, but I'm starting to find pleasure in doing things for myself now too. At the start of this journey (and the last Gus is Losin it), the point of doing weight-loss for charity was to give me accountability (because I knew if I was doing something for other people, I would actually do it, but I was stuck in such a state where I wouldn't go out of my way to do something good for me and would make me genuinely happy). This mindset is changing, and the habitual way of how I view myself (and how I think other people view me) is slowly starting to change as well. Things are getting better, and I really appreciate the love and support you have all shown me so far. it means the world!

So as of this morning, I have hit 51kg lost since late Jan of this year - It has been a pretty hectic few weeks post-op (and the lead up to the operation) both physically and mentally. The few days before the operation had terrified me and reminded me why I was doing what I was doing. there is still a long way to go but things are getting there. Big thanks for all the support. Also put stickers on my phone case.

Hey all, With the advice from my team (Doctors and Mental Health Specialists) I have decided to undergo surgery which will assist in making this journey a lasting life change that will have a positive benefit on my physical and emotional well-being that will also aid in stopping me from bouncing back to a very dangerous weight. To assist in improving my general health long-term, It was recommended that I have an Omega Bypass. After a lot of thought, I have decided that there are far more benefits in having the surgery to help shape the life I want (which I'm not going to go too in-depth about here). I'm not going to lie, I'm nervous in general about the whole thing. This is going to be a very big life change, particularly for the first 6 or so weeks after the surgery. For the first 6 weeks after the operation, I will also be unable to play the saxophone or perform (thanks again to all my bandmates and the venues around town for their understanding). I thought it was pertinent to post an update about this on this page just to share what has been going on and I just want to say thanks again to everyone for their support (both through generous donations and just being great human beings while I'm sorting my shit out). Words cannot express the gratitude I feel. As always - Big Bless, Huge Love. Gus P.S Remembered to clean my mirror, kinda... life is getting better :P

Just wanted to share a progress photo with you all. This is 6 months in - still a long way to go to where I want to be but things are happening. I’m very close to approaching the starting weight I was at the beginning of the first challenge (which is a weight I haven’t been since I was 17/18 which is pretty hectic). For the time being though, in shooting terms, I just have to keep my nut on the but (I promise this isn’t a dirty saying) and everything will get there. Hopefully before the next progress photo I remember to clean my mirror though.
