In October, my partner, Travis, and I are hiking the 75km Great Walk on K'Gari Island (Fraser). We are by no means hikers, but we are walking this for family.
The second last day of our hike commemorates what would have been Finn's, my cousin, 10th birthday. He died shortly after birth in 2011. His parents, Aunty Lauren and Uncle Paul, although surrounded by family, sought support from the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death organisation (SANDS). The organisation assists parents through the unimaginable of life after the death of a child. My aunt and uncle are a testament to the help that this organisation gives. They are here, they are strong and they are some of my heroes.
The statistics on pregnancy in Australia are staggering.
1 in 4 pregnancies will end in miscarriage or infant death
1 in 3 women will experience a miscarriage or infant death.
Those affected will inevitably seek the support of organisations like SANDS.
As always, SANDS needs help to support those going through this pain.
