Jadzia is my best friend/therapy cat. She is a polite indoor cat who enjoys making biscuits, chasing shoelaces, making trill purrs, and singing to birbs. She's just turned 8 years old and been with me and seen me through some very rough patches in life.
An unexpected illness occurred and I need help with paying her vet bills, for a surgery that saved her life.
My best fluffy friend was sick, I found she'd vomited blood. My world was broken.
After many days of tests, IV fluids, scans, and not eating, the usually adorably animated Jadzia was withering away. The vet doctors still couldn't be sure what it was, other than something was wrong with her gastrointestinal tract.
These vet consults and tests and fluids cost consecutively $356.70, $590.30, and an approximate $800 yet to be paid.
After realising we needed further detailed testing and a feeding tube so she could get nutrients to stay alive, we took her to emergency Animal Referral Hospital in Essenden. The first 24 hour stay with them with a specialist ultrasound was quoted to cost $2500. After the ultrasound was performed and found inconclusive, the only next step was surgery, quoted at $4500 and for every 12 hours extension to her stay a further $600 per 12hrs.
We had to make a decision of either performing an expensive exploratory surgery to see what on earth was going on in there, and if it was something that could be fixed, or... euthanasia.
We decided her life was worth more than any material thing.
At that afternoon at 3:30pm they went ahead with the emergency surgery.
Finally at 5:30pm I got the call from the surgeon, and he told me they found perforated stomach ulcers and had successfully removed them and stitched her up and she was safely in recovery.
I'm still waiting to be told when I can take her home, but she's recovering well.
I do not have any disposable income as I have multiple chronic illnesses and can't work, and it's already cost almost my yearly income. My partner is privileged to still be working through COVID, and is happy to help cover most of the costs. Unfortunately Jadzia's recovery is delicate and she's still needing to stay in hospital care, and each day she's there it's adding another thousand dollars+ and it's becoming difficult to manage.
If you can, please help. I understand the staff who saved her life need to get paid, and I can't do this on my own. My best friend wouldn't be here anymore if it weren't for these tests and operations.
Sincerely, thank you,
-Felix and family

I hope all goes well and Jadzia is better in no time.
