My name is Jake and I am grade 4. In 2020 I started having seizures and was told I have epilepsy. I started medication that made me feel sick and sleepy. I have had lots of tests in the last year and lots of medical appointments, so I've met lots of different health professionals at the Melbourne Royal Childrens Hospital. In April this year I had a PET scan and the doctor told me that I had a brain tumour and I needed to have surgery. I had my operation on 21st May 2021 and they were able cut out all of the tumour. They tested it and gave it a name, Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma.
I have recovered pretty well from my surgery, and I have a wicked scar. I am back at school and I feel really great. The start of term 3 means I can get back to playing sport, swinging on the monkey bars and running around because my head has fully healed. I still have more tests to get through later in the year, but hopefully surgery was the only treatment I needed.
Now that I’m feeling better, I would like to raise some money for the Royal Childrens Hospital so that other kids can get the same great treatment that I got.
