June 3rd, 2021 is the 5th year anniversary of a very good friend and overall wonderful human - Robbie “Cube” passing from cancer.
He is heartbreakingly not the only person in my life that I have lost because of cancer; and with the current rate of diagnosis and death across our continent, sadly more people in my life may also be affected in the future.
So in honour of Robbie’s anniversary, I’ve decided to shave my head and raise some funds for some organisations doing some big things in fighting this disease.
These are the organisations I’ve chosen to donate to and why:
Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) - This organisation continuously explore new and improved ways to prevent, detect and treat all types of cancer. I lost my Uncle Brett to liver cancer; when he was diagnosed he was unable to be treated for his cancer because of another illness he had. I hope that research organisations like this can help people like my Uncle in the future.
Breast Cancer Network Australia - Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis in Australia and I’ve lost a beautiful family friend; Linda to this type of cancer.
I’ve also added in Canteen who offer free counselling services to young people with a cancer diagnosis; among a whole other bunch of really great services. Having accessible mental health services is such an important value to me personally and I think the affects on the mental health of those involved around a cancer diagnosis is often overlooked.
I’m quite fearful about shaving off my hair but that is nothing compared to anyone who has ever had a diagnosis as big as cancer.
So in memory of these three beautiful humans: Robbie, Uncle Brett and Linda - please support me in supporting these organisations.
Please donate if you are able to and if you can’t, please share my fundraiser!
**the date of my shave has moved to Sunday, 18th July**
