After moving to Melbourne, while settling in and looking for a job, I decided to build my social network by attending events and gatherings through Meetup. One that caught my attention was birthing kit packing.
Intrigued by the name of the event, I did some research to find out what was it all about.
I was sad to learn that nearly 295,000 women die every year from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth and close to 2.5 million babies die within their first month of life. This mainly occurs in developing countries.
Hygiene was key to improving maternal and newborn survival rates in low resource settings. Therefore birthing kit was developed to aid this.
I was so happy to be part of that initiative and met some wonderful people during the event! I think we manage to pack around 3000+ kits one weekend!
This year, I've decided to organise one myself. It's a small activity and the aim is to raise funds to pack 200 kits. The goal is to enable women in developing countries - Africa, Asia or the Pacific have access to sterile birthing environment.
Thank you so much for supporting my goal in raising funds for a good cause.
Great cause, very thoughtful
