? UPDATE ? We reached our $200 goal in four hours ? Thank you for destroying expectations! I’m so proud of us! I’ve lifted our game, to a $500 goal. Let’s see if we can make it ? Thank you again, everyone. I feel so lucky to have such wonderful and generous people in my life. And cancer can go f*ck itself ❤️ ??? 2020 was a big year for a lot of reasons. For some of the women in my closest family, it was a particularly big one. 27 May 2020 would have been my Nanny’s 100th birthday, but she died of cancer too soon, before I was born. My Mum, her daughter, was only in her mid-20’s, and has faced all of life’s big up’s and down’s without her. In 2020, I brought little Ellie into the world with the care and support of King Edward Memorial Hospital (where my sister, Nicola, works tirelessly). Our Amelia became a big sister. And my Mum, Jacqui, had her second round of life-saving treatment (surgery and radiation therapy) for her second bought of cancer. What a year. It’s 2021 and the start of the year looks a little different than last. One of the big differences is how long my hair is! I have stumbled out of Ellie’s newborn period with a very long head of hair (those pregnancy hormones!) and I have decided - rather than styling it as normal - to chop off that long ponytail and donate it to charity. My hair will go towards making wigs for children who have lost their hair, fighting the disease that took my Nan and raised a fist at my Mum, twice (she crushed it, by the way ❤️). In the lead up to cutting my hair on 8 March 2021 (two days after my Mum’s birthday), I am inviting you to contribute however you can towards making this world cancer-free. One way is to make a small cash donation to the Cancer Council WA and King Eddie’s Women’s and Infant’s research foundations. My goal is a simple $200 - $100 for my Mum and $100 for my Nan, Irene Taylor, who my siblings, children and I were destined to love from afar. And my intentions reach also the very close friends and family members who have been touched by cancer, either personally or via people they know. We all know someone who has come up against this horrible giant. Let’s do our bit - big or small - to knock it down. Thank you for anything you can do to help. It is so appreciated.
