RESCUING MONKEYS IN BALI Bali Monkey Rescue is focused on the rescue, rehabilitation and protection of long tailed macaque monkeys. We aim to help end the illegal monkey trade as well as abuse and neglect. Two independently funded refuges operate under Bali Monkey Rescue. BALI MONKEY RESCUE TRAUMA CENTRE, where highly traumatised monkeys receive desperately needed one on one care for rehabilitation. BALI MONKEY RESCUE SHELTER where monkeys are integrated into a larger troop for a life as natural as possible and Although separately funded and with very different needs, both refuges have the same goals, values and beliefs and as such stand united under the umbrella of Bali Monkey Rescue. So, how does it work? Whilst all rescues are unique we generally get alerted by a member of the public, another animal welfare group or friends and members of Bali Monkey Rescue. Generally within 24 hours, our rescue team is on site to make a thorough assessment. Categorized into the traffic light system (Red; abuse and/or torture. Orange; in danger of becoming neglected, abused or tortured. Green; loved by an owner but inappropriately kept as a pet) according to this assessment we either confiscate the monkeys, negotiate a release of the monkey to our shelter or educate the owners. When a monkey is removed we always engage veterinarian services to ensure the monkeys receive their rabies vaccinations and a thorough health check. When cleared, we either introduce them to the troupe where they become part of a large monkey family or, if they are highly traumatized individuals, we provide specialized one on one trauma care at our trauma shelter. We are fully self funded and rely and are thankful to so many individuals without whom we could not do what we do. If you want to get involved please check here: https://www.balimonkeyrescue.com
